Saertex to set up export base in SL

Saertex India, the world leader in non crimp glass, carbon and Aramid
fabrics (technical fabrics) is eyeing Sri Lanka to set up an export
oriented manufacturing base to make glass composites and is currently
holding discussions with the Board of Investments.

Saertex India, Managing Director and CEO Dr PKC Bose speaking to
Daily News Business said subject to obtaining Sri Lankan government
approval, the company will make a minimal investment of Euro 3-5 million
for the project. The project will provide direct employments to 100-150
local youth.
In addition, the company is on the lookout of bringing its high end
technology, expertise in the areas of sewerage and pipe rehabilitation
activities into Sri Lanka and is seeking Sri Lankan government's
approval in building yachts and coast guard boats for Sri Lankan Navy as
well.

optimized process technologies and customized solutions for its
customers around the globe. Aramid is an organic polymer gained from a
fluid, chemical mixture.
The light-yellow filaments can possess different properties, are very
strong and have a very high specific modulus. Carbon fibres are produced
by way of a controlled oxidation, carbonisation and graphitisation of
carbonrich materials which are already in the form of fibres.
The raw material most frequently used is polyacrylonitrile (PAN), ”
Bose said. Saertex has also embarked on a joint venture project with
Ashok Leyland to introduce composite buses in India.
The buses will be made from environmental friendly fibre-reinforced
glass and plastic composites as against the conventional gas-guzzling
steel-bodied vehicles. A composite bus is lighter, consumes less fuel
and resists corrosion and damage than steel-bodied buses.
