Bikkhu arrested with Buddha statue

Police arrested a bikkhu and another person who had in their possession a copper coloured Buddha statue.

The statue is 13 inches tall, and weighed 3 kilos and 600 grams.. It was recovered from the Bikkhu and the other person while they were walking along the bund of the Yoda ela in the Batuwatte area.

It as believed the statue had been brought from Anrudahpuara. It is currently in the custody of the Thalawa Police.

Investigations are on to ascertain if the statue has an archaeological value or whether it was stolen from another temple.
