Met Dept predicts wet weather
Atmospheric conditions are favourable for more showers in the
Southwest quarter today, a Meteorology Department spokesman said
yesterday.
There will be occasional showers in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and
Central Provinces and in the Galle, Matara and Kurunegala districts as
well, the spokesman said. According to the weather forecast issued by
the Meteorology Department, fairly strong southwesterly winds can be
expected, especially in the western slopes of the central hills.
There will be showers at a several places in the western,
South-western sea areas and in the South-eastern deep sea area in the
morning. Winds will be Westerly or South-westerly direction and speed
will be 30-40 km/hr. The speed may increase up to 50-60 km/hr at times
in the South-eastern and Gulf of Mannar sea areas. South-eastern and
Gulf of Manner sea areas will be rough at times.
The highest temperature yesterday was reported from Polonnaruwa as
37.5 Celsius. The minimum temperature was reported from Nuwara-Eliya as
13.5 Celsius. The highest rainfall of 22.9 mm was reported from Matugama.
