Fernando in squad for Welegedera

The Sri Lankan cricketers who convincingly beat Pakistan by 209 runs
in the First of Three Tests at the Galle International Stadium, have
included fast bowler Dilhara Fernando in the squad.

The Second Test starts on Saturday at the SSC and Fernando has been
included owing to an injury suffered by left arm pacie Chanaka
Welegedera. ‘Fernando’s chances of playing will be only if, either Nuwan
Kulesekera or Nuwan Pradeep is unable to play. Otherwise Sri Lanka will
go in with the combination that won the Test in Galle’, said Chairman of
Selectors, former Sri Lankan bowling all rounder Asantha de Mel.
Skipper Mahela Jayawardena expressed great satisfaction the manner in
which Nuwn Kulesekera and Nuwan Pradeep performed in the Galle Test.
Kulesekera particularly uses the new ball cleverly and has the ability
to give Jayawardena the important early wicket or two.
Pradeep, the faster of the two, also bowled satisfactorily, but
success did not come his way. He is a great trier and the SSC wicket
might help him get back his wicket taking ways. |
