PHIs monitor dengue eradication programme

The Health Ministry yesterday said measures are in place to monitor all programmes launched by the health officials at provincial, district and MOH divisional levels to minimise the high prevalence of dengue cases during the National Dengue Control Month.

Health Minister Secretary Dr. Ravindra Ruberu in a special circular specified the programmes which should be implemented during the month. PHIs have been directed to inspect residences and the environment in areas where high prevalence of the dengue epidemic was reported during the first two weeks and request the owners to remove possible mosquito breeding grounds.

The Minister directed them to visit these places during the last part of the National Dengue Control Month again to ensure that the occupants have take measures to destroy possible dengue breeding grounds.

They have also been empowered to take legal action against householders and occupants who fail to comply with health directions.
