Pasindu
Peiris celebrating his victory |
The team was given a dream start to the weekend when Pasindu who was
2nd on the grid in the SLGT up to 3500CC event 1, managed to get a great
start ahead of pole positioned Ashan Silva. Pasindu driving his EZY
Mitsubishi ER9 managed to get the better line out of turn 1 to take the
lead from Ashan and there onwards managed to maintain it for the next 8
laps. Dinesh Deheragoda driving his Mitsubishi Evolution RS finished
3rd.
Pasindu who went into the 2nd event in the same race category as pole
sitter, couldn't convert his pole position to a victory as Ashan Silva
managed to get ahead of him going into turn 1. Pasindu was who was
struggling with an ailing clutch had to be content with 2nd place while
Dinesh Deheragoda finished 3rd.
” It is indeed a great feeling to be back on the top step of the
podium. In race 1 (SLGT event), we knew that we were in with a fair
chance if we managed to get a good start.
We managed to get a great start and then stuck to the game plan. It’s
unfortunate that we couldn’t convert our pole position in race 2 into a
victory.
The clutch gave away just when the lights went green and I had a very
bad start in race 2. Therefore we were fortunate that we didn't lose
more positions.” said Pasindu after the race.
The AOC technology powered EZY Racing team had yet another successful
run in
the only other race event they participated in when Pasindu and
Sajaad driving their EZY Honda ER4 and ER6 respectively, managed to
finish 2nd and 3rd in the SLH upto 1600CC event which was won by Ashan
Silva. Sajaad who has finished on the podium in every race barring one
(Pannala where he finished 4th), ensured that he continued his
successful podium run when he managed to finish 3rd after starting 4th
on the grid.
“Considering the challenges we experienced in Cavalry a fortnight
ago, we consider this weekend a very successful one. After a tough
weekend in Cavalry where a

couple of our cars got quite damaged due to different incidents that
took place under the clouds of dust that the race took place in, we were
forced to re think our strategies for this race. Given the situation we
decided to compete a downsized team. It’s very pleasing to note that
they delivered 4 podiums in the 4 races they collectively took part it.
We definitely were a touch disappointed that Pasindu couldn't convert
his pole position to a win in the SLGT race 2. However after
understanding that he experienced a clutch issue right from the word go
and the fact that he drove without the aid of his clutch in the last few
laps, we are indeed thankful and very satisfied of our 2nd place.”
commented Shafraz Hamzadeen, Team Principal/ CEO of EZY Racing, after
the race.
Commenting further on his pole driver Pasindu's technical issue with
the clutch which made him relinquish his race lead, Hamzadeen, said that
considering the demanding nature of the race calendar and the
limitations of time, especially when there was a race almost every
fortnight, it is very difficult and virtually impossible to get a car to
perform perfectly in every race. “The fact that we have had 3 races
within 4 weeks makes it even tougher. Given this stress load, we were
forced to decide whether we go for it all and take the risk or play it
safe. Knowing our drivers, who are all champions in one form or another,
they believed in going all out, rather than reserving their best. Hence
clutch issues such as this can happen because Pasindu went all out in
race 1 to clinch victory. If he hadn't done it we would have had two 2nd
places. The fact that he went all out,
gave us a victory and 2nd place. So it was not only a bold choice but
also a very good choice by Pasindu and the team”
With 4 more races scheduled before the completion of the circuit race
calendar, EZY Racing will now start focusing on their star studded Rally
Racing Team who have been champions twice in the last 3 years.
