Another asylum-seeker boat capsizes en route to Australia
An asylum-seeker boat carrying an estimated 150
people capsized Wednesday en route to Australia’s Christmas Island,
the Australian Maritime Safety Authority said. “A vessel has
capsized 107 nautical miles north of Christmas Island, there are
reportedly 150 people on board,” an AMSA spokeswoman told AFP.

Bishop resigns over 'bikini photos scandal'
The Vatican accepted the resignation on Tuesday
of an Argentine bishop who was caught cavorting with a woman on a
beach, in the latest of a string of sex scandals to hit the Catholic
Church. Bishop Fernando Bargallo, 57, was forced to hand in his
resignation after photographs emerged this month showing him
frolicking and embracing a blonde, bikini-clad woman at a luxury
resort in Mexico.

Indian PM takes over finance portfolio
Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has taken
temporary charge of the finance ministry, officials said Wednesday,
at a time of slowing growth, stubbornly high inflation and a falling
rupee. The finance portfolio fell vacant Tuesday following the
ministerial resignation of Pranab Mukherjee, who left to contend
India's presidential election in July.
