Paying price for abusing girl

The Kurunegala Provincial High Court Judge on June 22 sentenced an accused to 27 years imprisonment and ordered him to pay compensation of Rs 500,000 when he pleaded guilty to abducting and committing an offence on a 14 year old girl when the case was taken up before courts.

On kidnapping the girl, the accused was sentenced to 20 years RI and fined Rs 1,000. On abusing the girl, he was sentenced to seven years RI and fined Rs 1,000.

The accused was ordered to pay Rs 500,000 to the girl as compensation. In default, he was sentenced to another one year’s imprisonment.
