A ceremony to distribute appointment letters to youths in Kilinochchi
who wanted to join in civil security services, was held on 23rd June,
2012, in Kilinochchi.
Private Transport Service Minister C B Ratnayake, Parliamentarians
Namal Rajapaksa and M Chandrakumar and Governor of Northern Province G A
Chandrasiri participated at this function and distributed the
appointment letters.
Military top brass, Police and the Kilinochchi public participated at
this function.
Barren fields to be cultivated

The Southern Provincial Development Authority will cultivate 7,500
barren paddy fields in the SP. Already 836 acres have been cultivated
with traditional paddy varieties. These paddy fields have remained
barren for the past 40 years, Chairman SPDA Kapila Tyronne de Silva
said.
Baby elephant knocked down by vehicle
A vehicle which knocked down a two and a half month baby elephant in
Karuwelagaswewa left without a trace.
The Police said that the baby elephant had been hit at the 12th mile
post on the Anuradhapura-Puttalam road on Tuesday while crossing the
road.
The Police initiated investigations on information received from the
Thabbowa Wild Life Office.
Population Census handed over to President
The latest and the 14th report on the general population and housing
census of Sri Lanka was handed over to President Mahinda Rajapaksa at
Temple Trees on Tuesday.
The census carried out in three phases ended on March 20. The report
was handed over to the President by Census and Statistics Department
Director General Suranjana Vidyaratna.
AGM Lanka Mahila Samiti
The 82nd Annual General Meeting of the Lanka Mahila Samiti will be
held on June 30 at the Lanka Mahila Samiti Training Centre, 168 1/1,
Walivita, Malable from 9.30 am to 1.00 pm.
Members from 16 districts will participate in this annual event.
The Chief Guest Dr. Neela Gunasekara, Chairperson National Committee
on Women, Ministry of Women's Affair will address the meeting around 10
am.
New Managing Director of CPC
L E Susantha Silva was appointed Managing Director of the Ceylon
Petroleum Corporation with effect from June 1 by Petroleum Industries
Minister Susil Premajayantha.
A press release by the Petroleum Industries Ministry said Susantha
Silva is a graduate of the Sri Jayawardenepura University and has 30
years experience as an accountant. He is also a member of the Board of
Directors, Housing Development and Finance Corporation and several
foreign companies. He has held various posts in companies in Angola,
India, Switzerland, UAE and the Maldives.
Awareness on contagious diseases

The Association of the Sri Lanka Nursing Staff has initiated a
programme to make the public aware of contagious diseases in hospitals.
Control of spread of pathogens and protection of people from
infections are major concerns.

A play titled Disi Kawaka Asiriya will be staged by the students who
are following speech and drama at the Piyasena Kodithuwakku hall at the
Mathugama CWW Kannangara National School on June 29 at 8.00 am.

at theNational Library and Documentation Centre today at 3.30 pm.
Esala Sil programme
The annual Esala Sil programme organized by the Old Girl's
Association of Visakha Vidyalaya, will be held on July 3 at the school
Bo Maluwa. The programme includes Dhamma sermons, discussions, Bodhi
Pooja and a meditation programme.
