Drinking water lines extended from Wellawaya

The extended drinking water lines up to Kithulkote from the
Wellawaya- Thanamalvila Water Supply Project were inaugurated by Water
Supply and Drainage Minister Dinesh Gunawardana at the Wellawaya,
Kudaoya Maha Vidyalaya on June 26.
The project, implemented under the Assistance of Rural Water Supply
and Sanitation Third Project of the Asian Development Bank, will provide
water for around 10,000 families.
The water lines were extended to supply water to low income families
living between Wellawaya, Thelulla road up to Kitulkote.
The Water Supply and Drainage Ministry has identified that, around
3,000 families are badly affected by a severe water scarcity.
The target of the project is to provide purified water to the people
and protect them from disease spread by the water, a ministry spokesman
said. He said, another objective is to uplift the living standards of
low income families, The Project will cover water requirements in the
Thelulla colony, Uwa Kudaoya, Naigalara and Kithulkote.
The cost of the project is estimated at Rs 130 million, and around
50,000 people will benefit from it.
