Two nabbed in cement racket

Two men unloading cement dust from a lorry at Kalugala hospital junction in Habaraduwa were arrested on Sunday. Habaraduwa Police said the driver and his assistant were taken into custody while unloading the cement dust being transported to the Mattala Airport construction site.

Investigations revealed the suspects were transporting 36,500 kgs of cement from the Galle Cement Factory to Mattala site and on the way they had stopped to sell it to a buyer who fled the scene upon police arrival.

Police also seized a lorry used to transport the cement after illegally purchasing it and a stock of cement stored in a house. The suspects were produced before the Galle magistrate yesterday. Habaraduwa Police are investigating. YG
