PS member surrenders

Ten plaints have been filed at the Jaffna Magistrate's Court against a member of Akkaraipattu Pradeshiya Sabha for alleged cheating of youths with the promise of getting visas to foreign countries and obtaining Rs 7 million.

When the case was taken for inquiry before Jaffna magistrate M Ganesharajah, the suspect was not present in court. A warrant was issued for his arrest and he appeared in court through his lawyer.

It transpired in court that the suspect had cheated several youths and had fled to Akkaraipattu.
