Woman granted bail

Colombo High Court Judge Bandula Attapattu granted bail to a female accused yesterday when she was taken into custody on a complaint of cheating a young woman on the pretext of admitting her to a foreign university. The accused was ordered to be released on a Rs. 50,000 cash bail and Rs. 300,000 surety bail with two sureties.

Her passport was impounded. The accused was indicted on a charge of cheating a woman of Rs. 780,500 by way of posing as an agent of the London Institute of Hotel and Tourism, on the pretext of sending her to a foreign university.

The case will be taken up on July 25.
