The minister was addressing the opening ceremonies of two electricity projects in Trincomalee. The government had spent Rs 9.1 million on these projects and 152 families in Trincomalee received electricity.

"There are no human rights violations in the North and East provinces as foreign elements allege. Currently, all parts of the country are experiencing development after three decades of war," he added.

Meanwhile, Girihanduseya was illuminated on Poson Poya day. The Power and Energy Ministry has spent Rs 10 million on reconstruction activities in the Hiriganduseya sacred area.

The Power and Energy Ministry has provided electricity for 3,423 families in the Trincomalee district through Negenahira Navodaya electricity programme under the present government.

"The government has already established 31 electricity projects spending Rs 330 million. Measures are in place to provide electricity for the entire country by 2016," the minister added.

Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development Deputy Minister Susantha Punchinilame and Eastern Provincial Council Member Priyantha Pathirana also participated.
