Military strength in Jaffna district reduced
The strength of the military presence in the
Jaffna district has been reduced by 35,000 during the past five
years, Sri Lanka Army Spokesman Brigadier Ruwan Wanigasuriya said.
“The military is gradually reducing its presence in Jaffna as the
situation in Jaffna is peaceful. The military has been re- deployed
to other places in the country, according to the requirements,” he
said.

Four Lankans charged with jewellery theft in Singapore
Four Sri Lankan nationals were charged in court
on Monday with stealing seven gold chains from a shop in Little
India, Singapore. Police said about 7.30pm on May 30, a 58-year-old
saleswoman of the shop was attending to a customer when he made off
with seven pieces of gold chains she was holding. Her colleagues
chased him but lost him in the crowd.
