Sea erosion has begun at the beginning of the off-season in the
Southern coastal belt, especially between Balapitiya- Galle areas.
However, the threat is reduced due to reefs in existence since 1991.
Yet, large boulders placed in some areas have sunk gradually since
about two decades.
As a result, tidal waves have managed to encroach the boulders and
waves are seen crossing over to the Galle road from some areas during
the off-season. |
