Awareness programme on child abuse

The Justice Ministry has made arrangements to conduct a series of awareness programmes islandwide for schoolchildren to educate and protect them from child abuse and harassment.

Senior school principal in the Kurunegala district H M Dhanapala told the Daily News that this programme would be initiated from Colombo in the near future and thereafter, 125 awareness programmes would be held in Gampaha, Kurunegala, Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa districts in the forthcoming months.

National Development Bank will sponsor this project. Rs 2.7 million would be invested, Dhanapala added.
