International sports stadia for Kurunegala

Youth Affairs and Sports Ministry of the North Western Province has decided to construct two international stadia in the Kurunegala district during this year.

These stadia with modern facilities would be constructed in Kurunegala and Mawathagama electorates.

Young talented sportsmen and women in government schools and youth clubs in the Kurunegala and Puttalam districts will be able to practice in these stadia to compete at international sports competitions. Rs 45 million would be invested at the outset and several sponsors have consented to contribute for this project.

Five hundred young sportsmen and women will be trained annually by the North Western Provincial Council to participate in international sports competitions after constructing these international stadia.

Hundred trainers would be taught the latest sports techniques of international standards during the next two years, said Senior Sports Development Officer in Kurunegala J Kamalasiri told the Daily News.
