Coastguard extinguishes fire in trawler

The Sri Lanka Coastguard extinguished a fire that broke out in a fishing vessel in the seas off Chundikulam on Wednesday.

The two fishermen on board were rescued unhurt.

The coastguard patrol craft CG 43 stationed in the northern region was on patrol when they were alerted by the Navy to assist the trawler, Nandani which was on fire. The Officer-in-Command and crew extinguished the fire that had spread over a large area.

An ignition in the boat's gas burner had caused the fire when the boat left Thalaiady for Valachchenai with the owner Umardeen Ashan Ali and N M Aboobaker. The boat was towed to the Chundikulam shores.
