Japanese, Pakistani ships step up Naval ties with SL

Two Japanese and one Pakistani naval ship departed from the Colombo
Port on May 29 and 31 after participating in a series of programmes
organised by the Sri Lanka Navy to strengthen cordial relationships
among the Navies.

The ships arrived at the Colombo Port on May 28 and were ceremonially
welcomed by the Sri Lanka Navy.
The Japanese ships are IKAZUCHI and SAWAGIRI owned by the Japanese
Maritime Self Defence Force ( JMSDF) with Commanding officer Escort
Division Five, Captain Hirokazu Yamazaki on board. They are destroyers
enroute to interchange counter piracy operations off the Coast of
Somalia and in the Gulf of Arden.
IKAZUCHI is 151 metres in length and has a displacement of 4,550
tons, with a complement of 180 naval personnel commanded by Masahiro
SuZuki.
SAWAGIRI is 137 metres in length and has a displacement of 3,550
tons, with a complement of 190 personnel commanded by Toshiki Nizsizwa.
The Pakistan naval ship is a Fast Attack Craft named Azmat commanded
by Ahmed Hussain. The ship is on a goodwill visit while returning from
China. It is 63 metres in length and has a displacement of 631 tons,
with a complement of 77 naval personnel.
The Escort Division Five Commanding Officer and the Commanding
Officers of the ships paid courtesy calls on the Western Naval Area
Commander Rear Admiral D.S.Udawatta. They held cordial discussions and
exchanged mementos. |
