Beauty with a purpose

Her elegant talk, walk and feminine sweet natured behaviour prove that she is perfect to be crowned the Miss Sri Lanka title.

She is multi talented and is the youngest Miss Sri Lanka ever crowned in history.

Vinu Udani Siriwardene who is only 20 years old had the dream of becoming a beauty queen even while she was schooling.

Being a shining character at Anula Vidyalaya, Nugegoda, she has achieved many school level accomplishments.

Having all the desired requirements, she was crowned Derana Veet Miss Sri Lanka for Miss World on March 31.

Speaking to Daily News, Vinu recalled the glorious moment of her crowning. "It was a dream that I realized. I was overjoyed and determined to bring victory to my country from the next pageant, Miss International which is to be held in China in September. I participated in the Miss Sri Lanka pageant last year as well. And I was selected to the final 12. But due to my studies for A/L examination, I gave it up. Now I have completed examinations and waiting to enter the university", Vinu said.

Vinu is a very calm and peaceful character who is very much interested in Buddhism.

She does some charity work at Karagampitiya Dharmaraja Temple, Dehiwala. She conducts a preschool there for poor children and shares her talents with them whenever possible.

She is a very sporty character who can draw well. She teaches art to those children to make them better artists.

"I believe in hard work, dedication and desire to achieve my goal. I am dedicated to what I do and I work hard to achieve it and I advice young girls to do the same. Outer appearance and beauty do not mean everything to become a beauty queen.

But one has to have a humane heart with good qualities, confidence, intelligence, personality and good behaviour.

Everybody has his or her own natural beauty, so I do not think one should go after excessive beauty treatments", Vinu stressed.

These days she is getting ready to go to her next mega beauty pageant, Miss International which is to be held in China.

She highly believes in herself and very confident that she would be able to mark a victory there.

Further she is willing to join the film industry especially with Buddhism based films.

She also wants to follow her strides in the catwalk and is will do all this while being engaged in her higher studies.
