Heavy fines for possessing drugs

Three persons who pleaded guilty for possessing "Madana Modaka" in Kurunegala, Elugala were ordered to pay a fine of Rs. 20,000 by Kurunegala Chief Magistrate Kavindra Nanayakkara last Thursday.

Meanwhile another drug trafficker who pleaded guilty to a charge of possessing and trafficking 32 grams of heroin was sentenced to two years' RI and fined Rs. 25,000. A woman from Melsiripura who pleaded guilty to the charge of possessing and trafficking heroin weighing not less than one gram, was sentenced to two years' rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs. 25,000, in default another one year's imprisonment.
