Body of fisherman brought ashore

Sri Lanka Navy assisted in the transfer of the body of a fisherman who died at deep sea. The remains were brought ashore aboard a naval craft on May 16.

The 58-year-old fisherman had been among the crew of the multi-day fishing trawler named Naveena 4 which left for fishing from the Galle fisheries harbour on May 11.

He had died on May 15 whilst asleep on board the vessel at deep sea, east of Trincomalee.

The Navy was informed of the incident by the Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Department and action was taken to assist in the transfer of the body in response to the request by the boat owner.

Following instructions by the Naval Headquarters, the Eastern Naval Command dispatched a fast naval patrol craft for the task and the body, accompanied by two fellow crew members, was rushed ashore with the assistance of another naval inshore patrol craft.

The body was handed over to the Trincomalee Harbour Police.
