Five arrested with heroin

Two persons were arrested with 3.35 grams of heroin while transporting it in a three wheeler at the Mahabage junction, Kandana on Sunday, by the Kandana Police.

The suspects who are residents of Ja Ela were to be produced in the Negombo Magistrate’s Court yesterday. Boralesgamuwa Police took into custody two persons while transporting five kgs of cannabis at the Bellantara junction the same day.

The Nugegoda Magistrate remanded them until May 29. Boralesgamuwa Police are investigating.

Meanwhile, another suspect was arrested at Sedawaththa, Wellampitiya and police seized 2.480 grams of heroin in his possession.

He was to be produced in Aluthkade Magistrate's Court yesterday.

Ammunition found in home

Piliyandala Police found 60 T 56 bullets, 101 bullets of 9 mm, a gas bomb and two bomb holders in a house at Hokandara North. Police said the owner of the house was a retired serviceman and is evading arrest.

Piliyandala Police are investigating.

Meanwhile Serunuwara Police said two bombs were found in front of a kovil compound at Verugal in the Serunuwara area by a sweeper who was cleaning the kovil ground. Serunuwara Police are investigating.

Woman assaulted

A woman who had been allegedly assaulted by her husband succumbed to her injuries at the Balapitiya Hospital on Sunday.

The suspect was remanded until May 31 by the Balapitiya Magistrate. Meetiyagoda police are investigating.
