Agri Business Awards to be held in July

The Agri Business Awards 2012 organized by the National Agri Business
Council will be held on July 8 at the BMICH bringing Sri Lanka'sagri-business
fraternity onto one platform. The Agri Business Council President
Rohitha Nanayakkara said the awards are in recognition of performance
and contribution by the formal business sector towards the development
of agribusiness in Sri Lanka and will be sector based, grouped small
medium and large category while segmented into the sectors of input
suppliers, services, producers, processors and marketeers.
The event will be held concurrent with the Ag Biz-Profood/Propack
exhibition.
Nanayakkara said the evaluation would be mainly based on introduction
of new technology, performance in buying and selling agri products,
provision of extension and advisory services, financing, facilities
provided to its workers and CSR activity of the company.
It will be done by a competent panel or agriculturalists,
accountants, marketing consultants from the public and private sector.
Each and every segment will receive gold, silver and bronze awards in
respect to their performances, he said.
Agri Business awards started in year 2006 and it plays a prominent
role in the national economy through the food supply chain.
Meanwhile, Farmer Awards 2012 will benchmark the rural farmers in the
country who have performed exceptionally during the year 2011/2012.
Farmers will be evaluated on a district basis and the national level
winners will be selected among the district winners.
