Keels Super receives SLSI award for 'S M System'

Keels super, one of the most popular and leading super market chains in Sri Lanka surpassed yet another benchmark yesterday when they became the first retail chain super market store in Sri Lanka to receive a conformity certificate for the 'Supermarket Management System' from the National Standard body in Sri Lanka.

The Conformity Certifications has been awarded to Keels Super Crescat, Union Place and Rajagiriya.

Krishan Balendra the President of Corporate Finance, Strategy, Retail and Stock Broking at John Keells Holdings PLC confirmed that these awards would be an added impetus for the Keels Team to maintain its high standards.

"Keels Super not only becomes the first to receive this award but also one of the idea sources. Having set their standards high in their super markets, Keels Super had their initial meeting with the SLSI to implement the 'Supermarket Management System'. "After a rigorous inspection of quality and control covering areas, starting from simple details with the likes of environmental hygiene to the extent of controlling hazards' and procedures for verification, this award has been presented," said Kanchana Ratwatta, Chairman SLSI.

Head of sourcing Nihal Senarath speaking of the award at the ceremony held at Cinnamon Lakeside said, "This will be also a major marketing tool for the promotion of sales, as the certification has given an additional advantage over other super markets. As a result of this achievement, productivity of the chain is likely to improve," said Senarath.

"The certification will also boost the morale of the workers who make up the Keels Super team. It is because of their dedication and commitment to quality that we have been able to be marked as the first in the field,"he said.

The certification will further encourage people to work methodically and systematically rather than implementing adhoc systems which would improve the quality of work and the efficiency of the work force.
