Arogya 2012 in August
With the open economic policies, the health sector in Sri Lanka has
shown a significant development during the last few years. With the
increasing population which has now reached 20.8 million, there was a
dire need for the country to improve her healthcare facilities and this
requirement is now being fulfilled by both public and private sectors.
Sri Lanka presently has a number of modernized hospitals owned by the
state and the private sector.
Patients from neighboring countries such as the Maldives do use these
facilities making Colombo an important healthcare centre. Sri Lanka has
been able to retain many Sri Lankan patients who were earlier seeking
medical treatment overseas with the health sector development in the
recent past.
Sri Lanka has a pool of well qualified medical professionals, so much
so that the country's healthcare sector is not second to the health
sector in any country in the SAARC region. Advanced healthcare
facilities that were confined to Colombo earlier have now been spread to
many parts of the country.
The government under its development plan has invited investments,
both local and foreign, to invest in the healthcare sector projects
outside Colombo especially in the North and the East of Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka is well ahead in combating many communicable diseases,
thanks to the untiring efforts of successive governments towards this.
‘Arogya 2012’ International Healthcare Exhibition to be held from 17
- 19 August 2012 at BMICH, Colombo organized by the National Chamber of
Commerce of Sri Lanka in partnership with the Ministry of Health will
expose to the world and to Sri Lanka itself the country's strength in
the healthcare sector and the future potential.
