Packaging Materials (Pvt) Limited (PMPL), a new comer into the
flexible packaging industry in Sri Lanka with relatively a short period
of existence has been awarded the ISO 2000:2005/HACCP/GMP certifications
by the most recognized certifying body in the country; Sri Lanka
Standards Institution (SLSI) last month.
A limited liability company started by a local entrepreneur in 2008,
has credibly come a long way within just over three years in operation
to be a force to reckon in the converting business in the island. Sri
Lanka, though being small, has become very competitive and a
sophisticated market in the region for flexible packaging material due
to its exposure and the demands by the export orientation of clients
especially due to Tea and lately as result of other exports such as
biscuits and other food products.
This scenario has led the packaging material suppliers to seek for
certifications like ISO thus encouraging implementing systems and
processes meeting international standards.
Currently, PMPL supplies packaging materials to industries such as
Tea and Coffee, Dairy, Processed Meats, Confectionery, Snack Foods,
Convenience Foods, Biscuits etc Obtaining of ISO certification has
created new opportunities for PMPL to supply its produce to large
conglomerates and multinationals who insisted on quality standards
especially ISO 2000:2005.
R D Premasiri, Managing Director of PMPL stated that the company
intends approaching foreign markets and they are confident in supplying
world class packaging material converted at their factory situated in
Millaniya, Bandaragama with a conversion capacity of over 100 MT for a
month currently and the future plans to expand the business and the
plant capacity as well. |
