Passport imposter arrested

Police are investigating a complaint regarding the issue of two passports carrying identical personal details of two different parties with different photographs. One suspect was arrested by the Western Province Intelligence Unit.

When a resident of Cheenakotuwa, Beruwala tried to get a passport, the Immigration and Emigration Office informed they had already issued a passport to a resident of Dharga Town, Aluthgama with similar personal details.

Investigations by Kalutara district Western Province Intelligence Unit OIC Nalaka P Sumanarathna and a special team revealed that the suspect had tried to get a job in Kuliyapitiya and arrested him in Hettimulla, Beruwela.

The suspect aged 24 with the same name as the complainant is a resident of Pathirajagoda, Dharga town. Police also found an identity card, a copy of a birth certificate and a passport carrying the complainant's name but with the suspect's photo.

Western Province Intelligence Unit are investigating.
