The funeral of Mrs. Nanda
Samarasinghe Dissanayake Weeratunga, younger sister of the

sisters, was held at the Thalapathpitiya Public Cemetery

SHM Jameel, a former Secretary to the
Muslim Religious and Cultural Affairs Ministry, has
authored a book titled, “Muslims in Sri Lankan Parliament.”
The book traces Muslim representation in the legislature
since 1889, and the laws enacted in relation to the
ministers. Here a copy of the book, together with several
other publications of the author are being presented to the
Speaker of Parliament Chamal Rajapaksa, MP, in his chambers
by S.H.M. Jameel. Also in the Picture are Alhaj A.H.M. Azwer,
MP, member of Parliament Council and former Minister of
Muslim. Religious and Cultural Affairs, and C. Kuruppu”.

External Affairs Minister Professor
G.L. Peiris had bilateral discussions with several leaders
of the Non-Aligned Movement at ministerial level on the
sidelines of the Ministerial Meeting of the NAM Coordinating
Bureau in Sharm-el-Sheikh, Egypt on May 12. Among them was
Cuban Foreign Affairs Minister Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla.
Minister Peiris, in his address at the plenary sessions,
underlined Sri Lanka’s perceptions in respect of the NAM’s
role in international diplomacy today.He was invited to
speak on behalf of the Asia-Pacific Group of countries at
the concluding session of the conference which was attended
by representatives of 120 countries. Here Minister Peiris
