Jaffna Vesak Pandal, Bakthi Gee winners
Prizes were presented to the winners to Vesak Pandal and Bakthi Gee
competitions held in Jaffna.
Students of the Tamil Buddhist Association were awarded a prize in
the Bakthi Gee competition.
The 533 Regiment was awarded the first prize in the Vesak Pandal
competition while the the second and third places were won by 523 and 52
Regiments respectively.
Northern Region Police Superintendent, Jaffna Area Army Commander and
religious dignitaries participated in the awards ceremony.
More buses to Northern fleet
Five new buses have been added to the Northern fleet to ease the
travelling difficulties of the people.
The handing over ceremony took place at Kondavil Central bus depot on
May 10. Sri Lanka Central Transport Board (SLCTB) General Manager Abdeen
Haskar handed over the keys of the buses to the Jaffna, Karainagar,
Kondavil ,Kilinochchi and Vavuniya depot managers .
He said that 90 percent of the requirement of Northern Province bus
depots has been fulfilled and more buses will be added to the fleet in
due course.
School upgraded
The Kilinochchi Barathy Vidyalaya has been upgraded as 1AB school
with facilities with GCE Advanced Level Arts facilities.
This school at present classes from Grade 1 to GCE (OL) stream. The
upgrading of this school will enable students to continue their studies
in the same school without searching for other schools with GCE (AL)
classes.
Dies in accident
A cyclist, Vijeratnam Amsalam Moorthy (49) of Suthumalai Manipay, who
was knocked down by a canter van at Kokuvil died on admission to the
Jaffna Teaching Hospital.
Road opened after 20 years
The Ponnalai Keerimalai road has been opened to the public after 20
years. This road lies in the coastal area and has been used by the Navy.
The Valgamam West Pradeshiya Sabha and Traditional Industries and Small
Enterprise Development Minister Douglas Devananda held discussions with
the authorities regarding the opening of this road which was used by
those travelling to Keerimalal to for religious purposes.
School
opened
A Kanishta Vidyalayam was opened at Mullivaykal in Puthukuddirruppu
on May 10. This school will serve the educational needs of displaced
children at Thimpili Konbavil and Mullivaykal villages.The Vidyalayam
which has classes from Grade 1-5 was opened by Mullaithivu Army
Commander L P R Mark. Puthukuddirruppu A G A, Mullaithivu Assistant
Education Director E Jeyakanth, Principal and teachers were present on
the occasion. |
