Four records set up on second day of Junior Nationals

Four records tumbled on the second day of the 55th Junior National Athletics Championships, making it a total of 11 new records at the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Stadium at Diyagama yesterday.

Sailors accounted for three of the four records established yesterday.

The day's first new record belonged to Sailor Milan Dassanayake who cleared 7.70 metres in the under 23 boys’ long jump.In the under-18 girls’ discuss throw, St Bridgett's Convent's Amanthi Silva cleared 39.12 metres to update the record books.

Pole vaulter from Navy, M S A Sandaruwan cleared 4.30 metres to make it a new meet record in the under-20 boys’ pole vault.

In the under-23 boys 110 metres hurdles, Sri Lanka Navy's A.K.A.C Nirmal had a 14.75 second run to set a new meet record, making it three for the Navy.

This year's Junior Nationals got off to a terrific start on Thursday as the young athletes erased as many as seven meet records.

Today is the third day of the meet. The 55th Junior National Athletics Championships will mark its conclusion tomorrow.
