The curtain raiser of the Singer league segment A division one rugby tournament between traditional rivals St Peters'College Bambalapitiya and StJoseph's College, Colombo 10 for the Fr . Basil Wiratunge Shield was called off due to a water logged ground and lightning caused by the inclement weather conditions in Colombo.

Referee Aruna Jayasekara in consultation with the match commissioner Gamini Sarathchandra decided to postpone the match taking into cosideration the safety of the players. The game will now be played on July 14 at the same venue according to a decission made in consultation with the Sri Lanka Schools Rugby Football Association secretary Susantha Mendis.

A large gathering of parents and supporters had to go home disapointed not being able to see the very first encounter of the tournament.
