Customs seize illegally imported clothing
The Customs seized two containers full of
clothing imported illegally on Thursday. The importer had attempted
to avoid paying a tax of Rs 10 million to the government by
importing the clothing illegally. A trader from Wellampitiya had
obtained permission to only import plastic doors. The value of the
clothes had been estimated at Rs 30 million.

Cop craving for turtle flesh remanded
A police constable attached to Mannar Police was
remanded for stealing turtle flesh on Thursday. Police Spokesman SP
Ajith Rohana said the police constable was remanded for stealing 10
kilos of turtle flesh which was produced before court.

Two nabbed for distilling Kasippu during New Year season
Two men suspected of manufacturing Kasippu
during the New Year season were arrested by the Special Task Force (STF),
Horana during raids at Poruwedanda and Ilimba. The STF also seized
56,250 millilitres of illicit liquor during the April 19 raids.
