Cop craving for turtle flesh remanded

A police constable attached to Mannar Police was remanded for stealing turtle flesh on Thursday.

Police Spokesman SP Ajith Rohana said the police constable was remanded for stealing 10 kilos of turtle flesh which was produced before court.

He said 31 kgs of turtle flesh was produced before the Mannar magistrate and it was later ordered to be sent to the veterinary surgeon for investigations.

The turtle flesh was returned to the magistrate after investigations. The magistrate ordered the flesh to be destroyed but inspected the production before it was sent to be destroyed.

She found 10 kgs of flesh missing and ordered the Police to investigate.

The Police Spokesman said the Mannar SP conducted investigations. Investigations revealed that a police constable had stolen the flesh when it was being taken to the veterinary surgeon. The magistrate ordered the police constable to be remanded until May 4.

The first suspect nabbed with the turtle flesh pleaded guilty and was fined. Mannar Police are investigating.
