The Customs seized two containers full of clothing imported illegally on Thursday. The importer had attempted to avoid paying a tax of Rs 10 million to the government by importing the clothing illegally.

A trader from Wellampitiya had obtained permission to only import plastic doors. The value of the clothes had been estimated at Rs 30 million. The two containers had been imported by a resident of Colombo 11.

The 20 foot long containers had contained trousers, T-shirts, shoes, tiles and many other goods.

They had been packed carefully. The two containers had been imported from China.
