Elements behind Geneva resolution plan to divide India - PM

The elements which pushed the Geneva resolution against Sri Lanka are interested in our country because of their long term plan of dividing India in a similar manner to former Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR). Sri Lanka is the launching point of their agenda, Prime Minister D M Jayaratne told the Daily News yesterday.

According to the Prime Minister, Sri Lanka is a culturally and religiously rich country and has a history over 2555 years.

"Nobody needs to assist or guide Sri Lanka on humanitarian issues and related matters. Sri Lankan kings treated all religions and ethnicities equally," he said.

The Prime Minister said Sri Lankan kings distributed lands among all four religions.

"Sri Lanka needs economical assistance at the moment," he said. But it seems the elements are more interested in providing 'assistance' in the form of arms.

The Prime Minister pointed out that today our system has made more progress. President Mahinda Rajapaksa treats all religions and ethnicities alike in keeping with the Buddhist teachings.

"Today China and India are economically powerful and in a strong position in Asia. The foreign elements are trying to set up a separate state in Northern Sri Lanka to create a separate state in Tamil Nadu which will eventually lead to the creation of separate independent states in India just as it happened in the former USSR.

"It will definitely destroy the economic power of India. Separatism has already hit certain Indian states" he said.

Prime Minister Jayaratne stressed the importance of the famous statement made in the 1950s by a prominent Indian nationalist, diplomat and statesman V.K.Krishna Menon.

"He said India's safety lies in the Trincomalee harbour in Sri Lanka."

"This is a fact that will last forever. Therefore, it is very important for India to ensure the safety of Sri Lanka", Prime Minister Jayaratne added.
