Jail and fine for reckless driving

Panadura Magistrate R S A Dissanayaka, sentenced a driver to 18 months rigorous imprisonment, suspended for five years and imposed a fine of Rs 1,250, when he pleaded guilty to five charges, including causing the death of a passenger by driving a private coach on the Galle Road in Wadduwa in a reckless and negligent manner and causing injuries to another passenger.

When the case came up before court on Monday, the accused P H Sarath Kumara, pleaded guilty to all charges. He was charged by Wadduwa Police for driving a private coach on Galle Road, Wadduwa, in a reckless and negligent manner, causing the death of Susantha Rohitha Fernando and causing injuries to Prince Bandara.
