World Buddhist Sangha Council in May

A special ceremony of the World Buddhist Sangha Council will be held
in Colombo in May to mark the 2600th Sambuddathva Jayanthi
The ceremony will be held at the Nelum Pokuna Mahinda Rajapaksa
theatre on May 8, at the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic on May 9 and
at the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi premises on May 10, Ven Prof Bellanvila
Wimalaratana thera said.
President Mahinda Rajapaksa will participate in the ceremony as a
special invitee. It will be held under the patronage of World Buddhist
Sangha Council President Ven Liua Chung, the thera said.
Around 35 delegations from Buddhist and non-Buddhist countries will
attend and around 500 chief incumbents in the country will participate,
the thera added.
Chief organisers of the meeting are Ven Prof Bellanvila Wimalaratana
thera and Ven Bodhagama Chandima thera. |
