Private bus accidents result in three deaths

Three persons were killed in accidents involving private buses on Monday while five others suffered injuries.

Two persons traveling in a three wheeler died when a private bus crashed into it in Mathugama while another pedestrian died when he was hit by a another private bus in Galle.

A Premawathi and Y D Saman Kumara of Agalawatta died after the three wheeler in which they were travelling was hit by a private bus at Duppiligoda on the Agalawatta-Baduraliya road in the Mathugama Police area. Premawathi was found dead on admission to the Wettewa Hospital, while Saman Kumara succumbed to his injuries while being transferred to the Nagoda Hospital from the Wettewa Hospital. The driver was taken into custody.

Police spokesman SP Ajith Rohana said that the person who died in Galle was hit by a private bus in front of the Galle prison on the Galle-Colombo road. He died on admission to the Karapitiya Hospital. Police found the victim was a beggar. The driver of the private bus was taken into custody.

A Colombo bound private bus from Muttur turned turtle near Mahakade junction, Beligamuwa in Galewela after veering off the road.
