Former Parliamentarians honoured

Over 150 former Parliamentarians representing all parties of the country was honoured in view of the Sinhala and Tamil New year at the Speaker’s residence yesterday. Speaking on the occasion Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa said that this ceremony was organized to recognize the contribution made by them to the country as public representatives in the legislature Prominent politicians in the calibre of Daya T. Pasquel, D. R. Rathnayake , Ranjith Attapattu and Ananda Kularatne representing the Sri Lanka Freedom Party and the UNP in Parliament from 1956 – '77 were also present.

A number of retired officials of the Sri Lanka Parliament were also present. President Mahinda Rajapaksa who participated in the felicitation ceremony had cordial conversations with all the former Parliamentarians.

Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa presented mementos to the former Parliamentarians and the staffers who were present. Deputy Speaker Chandima Weerakkody, Secretary General of Parliament Dhammika Dasanayake and senior staffers of Parliament were present.
