‘Right environment for united Sri Lanka’
Presidential Secretary for Parliamentary Affairs, Kumarasiri Hettige
said the environment necessary for all to live in a united Sri Lanka has
now been created and no opportunity to divide the country should be
permitted.
He said, “all forces that rise up against the country can be defeated
if we move forward building unity from village to village. President
Mahinda Rajapaksa's unwavering leadership is the only strength the
country has, to achieve this.”.
Hettige made the above comments participating as chief guest at the
New Year festival held at the Wellawatte police grounds to celebrate the
Sinhala and Hindu New Year.
The New Year festival held on April 8, was attended by a large crowd
including the Magistrate of Colombo 5,Tikiri Jayatilleke, former Senior
Deputy IGP, Muni Gomes, former Deputy IGP, Rienzie Perera, and Senior
Superintendent of Police, Colombo South, Sanjeewa Dharmaratna.
Hettige said, “We intend to fulfil a number of objectives by holding
national festivals. Sinhala and Hindu New Year helps to build
brotherhood, peace and co-existence among the different races. Holding
such festivals in all police stations creates a novel feeling. We are
able to hold such festivals because President Mahinda Rajapaksa gave the
correct political leadership to defeat terrorism.
“Today, the young generation and all others live a happy life. The
value of victory is immeasurable. The three armed forces and the police
carried out their duties day and night to defeat terrorism. The service
rendered by the police throughout 24 hours of the day is immense.
“It is wrong to blame the entire police service for the malpractices
of a few. Bringing a country that was engulfed in a fear psychosis for
30 years to a righteous status is not an easy task. “International
forces that are against the country could be defeated only if all
communities are united. We have a fearless leadership under President
Mahinda Rajapaksa”.
Hettige said it is a pleasure to witness the creation of a wonderful
future for the youth.
Six new bicycles were donated to the Wellawatte Police for patrolling
services by Kumarasiri Hettige.
Ven Ahangama Ananda Thera, Senior Superintendent of Police Sanjeewa
Dharmaratne, OIC Wellawatte Police – Police Inspector Samarakoon also
addressed the gathering.
