The Environment Ministry in collaboration with the National Gem and
Jewellery Authority (NGJA), distributed gift packs containing clothes
worth about Rs 2 million to about 3,000 pre-school children in the
Pannala Divisional Secretariat Division for the Sinhala and Hindu New
Year.
This event was organized under a concept of the Environment Minister
Anura Priyadarshana Yapa with a cash donation from NGJA Working Director
Sarath Samarakoon.
These gift packs were presented at three ceremonies in Giriulla
Community Hall, Pannala Community Hall and Makandura Sandalankawa
Central College main hall last Monday.
About 300 pre-school teachers from these schools would be presented
with new sarees for the New Year, today. The minister observed
pre-schools played a key role in preparing children for school
education, adding that providing necessary facilities to pre-schools was
a valuable investment for the future.
