Avurudu celebrations at all prisons

Rehabilitation and Prison Reforms Ministry will hold New Year festivals at all prisons and rehabilitation centres this year. This is the first time such an event is held in the prisons' history.

The New Year festivities will be held with the participation of all prisoners. On the advice of Rehabilitation and Prison Reforms Minister Chandrasiri Gajadeera this step will be taken aiming to cultivate humane qualities among prisoners, including cooperation, friendship, kindness, team concept and much more.

According to Rehabilitation and Prison Reforms Ministry Secretary A Dissanayake, family members of prisoners will be allowed to visit the prisons on April 13 - New Year day. They can celebrate the New Year with the prisoners and share the joy of New Year.

The main function of the New Year celebrations will be held at the Welikada Prisons under the patronage of the minister.
