Moratuwa YMCA conducts second Open Junior Shuttle C’ship

The Second open Badminton tournament for children under 11 and 13, was organized and conducted by the Moratuwa YMCA at its indoor sports complex recently.

This tournament, which was held under the auspices of the Western Province Badminton Association, attracted a large number of up and coming players who exhibited a high standard of play. Winners and runners up received valuable gifts, medals and certificates and the chief guest was former national champion and national coach L.R.Ariyananda. Among the main sponsors of the tournament were Astron (Lanka) Ltd., Commercial Bank of Ceylon - Moratuwa and The Finance Co Ltd - Moratuwa. Citizens Development Business Finance PLC and several other well wishers too contributed towards the success of this tournament.

Under 11 boys final:

A.S.Thiwanka De Soyza (St Peter’s College, Colombo) beat Tharindu Peiris (St Sebastian’s College Moratuwa)

Under 11 girls final:

A.V.Dilmi Premashika Dias (O.L.V Convent, Moratuwa) beat Mihinsa Rusandi Mendis (O.L.V Convent, Moratuwa)

Under 13 boys final:

Benchard Fernando (St Peter’s College, Colombo) beat Dharaka Peiris (S. Thomas’ College, Mt.Lavinia)

Under 13 girls final:

W.M.Hasara C.Wijeyarathna (Vidhura College) beat Chathurya L.Rodrigo (Royal Institute, Colombo)
