Schoolgirl attacked by crocodile

An 18-year-old schoolgirl attached to Gunaratna Vidyalaya, Palatuwa had been dragged away by a crocodile when she ventured into the Nilawala Ganga beside her house in Malimbada North around 6am yesterday for her morning ablutions.

The victim was identified as D Ruwanthika Tathsaranee.

The girl had raised cries on seeing the crocodile within a short distance.

But the crocodile had dragged her and disappeared into the river before her parents rushed to the scene.Neighbours with the help of Akuressa Police had deployed boats to search for her.Akuressa Police said this is the second crocodile attack reported in the Kadduwa- Malimbada area within the last few days.
