When the Kahatawatta double murder case came up for hearing on
Monday, Pelmadulla Magistrate Chandanie Niranjala Dias re-remanded the
four suspects held in this connection until April 16 and ordered the CID
to investigate the bank accounts of the suspects and submit a report.
The CID informed court that they have recorded a statement from
Mihilake Sampath, a son of the suspect member L M Dharmasiri and
requested court permission to examine the bank accounts of Mihilake
Sampath too.
Mihilake Sampath was arrested by the CID on January 20 for alleged
possession of heroin and involvement in an extortion racket.
The suspects produced in court on Monday were L M Darshana alias
Raju, Rasila Chandanie Udayakumari alias Asoka, Chuti Malli and L M
Dharmasiri.
They are held in connection with the double murder of Nayana Nilmini,
51, and her daughter Kavindya Chathurangi, 18, on January 31. The
magistrate also ordered relevant institutions to submit DNA reports of
the first three suspects. The magistrate also allowed the request made
by the CID to inspect the bank accounts of Mihilake Sampath.
