Transform ocean into a lucrative resource - President
“It is a big disgrace for us to import canned
fish for our consumption spending billions of rupees as an island
nation while endowed with a resourceful ocean around the country “,
said President Mahinda Rajapaksa. The President was addressing a
gathering following the opening of the first ever state fish canning
factory of Sri Lanka in Galle yesterday.

‘Rs.2,500 enough for bare survival’
Education Minister Bandula Gunawardena said
yesterday that what he meant when he said that Rs. 2,500 was enough
for a person to survive was that it was sufficient to keep him
alive. The Minister said that when a society has a debate on a topic
the people of that country would be absorbed in it without being
concerned about truths or falsehoods.
