Women Entrepreneur awards in June
Woman Entrepreneur of the Year 2011 conducted by Woman Chamber of
Commerce (WCIC) will be held in June. Traditionally the WCIC recognizes
women entrepreneurs and professional women every other year. This event
was the brain child of Sita Yahampath, Past Chairperson, and the first
award ceremony was held in 1998.
The WCIC sponsors the Woman Entrepreneur of the Year in several
categories, every second year since 1998 to highlight the success of Sri
Lankan business women. The event would also recognize a Professional
Woman of the Year.

WCIC being the only Women's Chamber for many years, attracted
successful business and professional women to compete for these
prestigious awards.
Through this recognition emerged many successful women who forged
ahead with confidence and reached the highest levels in the business
arena in Sri Lanka and abroad.
The year 2012 under the stewardship of Chairperson Vidyani Hettigoda
heralds the recognition of the Woman Entrepreneur of the Year 2011.
There will be SAARC Entrepreneur 2011 also being awarded. This award is
being offered in collaboration with the SAARC Chamber Women Entrepreneur
Council (SCWEC) Woman Entrepreneur of the Year 2011 will recognize
winners in the following categories.
Woman Entrepreneur of the Year 2011.
Large, Medium, Small and Micro Categories Gold, Silver and Bronze
Awards Applicants will be evaluated by a panel of Judges from
prestigious organizations from the private and public sector
Institutions.
The WCIC invites women entrepreneurs of the business arena to grab
this opportunity and apply for awards of 2011 and use the opportunity to
take their enterprises forward with success and prosperity.
WCIC is a non-profit organization of professional women, women in
business and management was started in 1985 to promote the special
interests of women entrepreneurs with the objective of incorporating
them into the mainstream of business activity in the country. WCIC is
the first women-only Trade Chamber to be set up in Sri Lanka in 1985 and
the first in the world. Membership is presently at 120.
The Chamber arranges for members' participation in conferences, trade
fairs and exhibitions and also training programmes at home and abroad.
Projects are designed, formulated and conducted to enhance the technical
and management skills of other women's groups which need development.
The Chamber assists women entrepreneurs through advocacy and
consultancy services.
WCIC Provides a centre for the dissemination of up to date
information essential for the active entrepreneur through communications
received regularly by the Secretariat from any Governmental and
non-Governmental sources.
In March 2001, WCIC set up its International arm, the SAARC Chamber
Women Entrepreneur Council (SCWEC) which comprises a membership of key
women entrepreneur organizations from the SAARC Countries. SWEC was set
up by the WCIC initiated and guided by the FCCISL and the SCCI.
