Free seminar on graphic designing
The Sri Lanka Institute of Printing (SLIOP) under the Ministry of
Youth Affairs and Skills Development has organized a free seminar for
school leavers and those who wish to enter this industry, on Sunday,
April 8 from 8.30 am to 2.30 pm at the Sri Lanka Institute of Printing.
This will be a very valuable awareness programme for those who intend
to study Graphic Design Technology or to take up Graphic Designing as a
career, which has a high potential for employment in Sri Lanka and
abroad.
The Seminar will provide the essential basic knowledge in Graphic
Design software packages.
The entrance to the seminar will be free of charge and the intake
will be limited to capacity and those who are interested in
participating the seminar should reserve a seat by contacting the Sri

Ruhunu Campus 19th annual convocation

The 19th Annual Convocation of the Ruhuna University will be held at
the University's indoor stadium in three sessions on March 30 and 31.
Vice Chancellor Ven Aggamaha Panditha Pallattara Sumanajothi thera
will preside.
Media seminar
The Sri Lanka Muslim media forum will conduct a media seminar on
March 31, at the Clifton Muslim Balika Vidyalaya, Colombo 9, for
students.
The topic of the full day seminar will be "Media in the 21st
century."
Leading media personnel will be the resource persons.
The Bangladesh High Commissioner will be the chief guest at the
certificate awarding ceremony to be held in the afternoon.
Conference
The 5th Annual Research Conference on Humanities and Social Sciences
of the Royal Asiatic Society (RASSL) will be held on March 30 and 31 at
the Mahaweli Centre, 96, Ananda Coomaraswamy Mawatha (Nelum Pokuna
Mawatha), Colombo 7.
Academic papers will be presented on archaeology, history and social
sciences.
The conference will also see the launch of the 1st Aesthetic Studies
Conference, in addition to the 2nd Philosophy Studies Conference and the
4th Sinhala Studies Conference. This is the country's largest national
conference on social sciences and humanities. With 330 abstracts
submitted this year, the RASSL conference has become the equivalent for
the annual conference of the Sri Lanka Association for the Advancement
of Science (SLAAS). Members of the Royal Asiatic Society and public are

Visakha Avurudu Pola
The Avurudu Pola organized by the Old Girls’ Association of Visakha
Vidyalaya will be held on March 31 at the school premises from 9 a.m. to
6 p.m. The Kiddies’ Corner, Games of Skill and House of Horrors are
included as amusements for the whole family. Also Traditional Avurudu
Senakeli will be a major attraction at the event. All proceeds will be
used for school development projects.
Library needs books
A library has been set up at the Warakapola Base Hospital for the
benefit of its staff and patients by the hospital's Arts Society.
A spokesperson for the society said, donation of books from
philanthropists and the public would be welcome to enhance the capacity
and reach of the library. Bookshops too can donate books which have
either been discoloured or stockpiled over the years due to the lack of

Prize giving
Al Jami Wal Madarasathul Quraniya Madarasa, Baseline Road, Colombo
will hold its annual prize giving ceremony on April 1 at 3 pm at the
Madarasa premises.
Maligawatte Masjid Federation President Al Haj A.M.J.M. Jawfer will
be the chief guest. Y. M. Ibrahim will be the guest of honour and
Moulavi Kaleel will be the guest speaker.
AGM
The Past Pupils Association of the Convent of Mary Immaculate, Matara
(Colombo Branch) will hold its 39th Annual General Meeting on March 31
at the Peach Valley Chinese Restaurant, Flower Road, Colombo 7. New
members will be enrolled on this day. |
